Unleash Her Potential (UHP) is dedicated to supporting female athletes by providing mentorship, education, and connection. We offer an experience that develops well-resourced female student-athletes through peer and mentor connections, mindset coaching, sports nutrition, female-specific education, grounding techniques, and lessons in learning to fail and level up. Our mission is to give female athletes the foundation to unleash their full potential.
Each of our athletes will participate in six 90-minute educational workshops, held once a week over six weeks. These workshops will cover a variety of topics to support their growth and development. Additionally, we will host a separate session for parents or guardians, providing an overview of what their athletes are learning and offering strategies to effectively support them.
Each mentee will also be paired with a mentor—a former or current student-athlete—who will meet with them throughout the year to provide ongoing connection, guidance, and serve as a positive female role model. UHP will also facilitate events throughout the year to foster bonding and organize activities that contribute to serving our community.
There has been increased awareness of mental health struggles among college and professional athletes. While increasing resources for these older athletes is crucial, it is important to recognize that many of these symptoms begin forming at a very young age due to unmet needs, isolation, and pressure. Research shows that by age 14, girls drop out of sports at twice the rate of boys.
The personal, social, and contextual barriers for girls in sports are expansive, including a lack of positive female role models, fear of failure, limited access, and poor body confidence, to name a few. While we cannot control media messaging about women's sports, funding disparities, negative comments from classmates, or the unrealistic expectations society places on girls and women, we can focus on what we do have control over: ourselves—our self-talk, attitude, ability to regulate emotions, support for our teammates, and care for our bodies.
Our mission is to support female student-athletes through puberty by reframing challenges and building on the tools they already possess. This helps them navigate their future successfully as athletes and women while fostering a sense of belonging. By providing an inclusive support network, our goal is to improve their overall social and emotional well-being so that each athlete has the capacity and skills to meet their target..
UHP will continue to collaborate with parents, coaches, athletes, nutritionists, and mental health providers to ensure that our curriculum remains relevant and effective.
